Yesterday I sent this letter to the members of the Dutch parliament and the temporary chairman of the European Union, Mark Rutte. Today I am writing the same letter, but now upgraded in time and history. This time I am writing to the members of the European Commission.

As a child and descendant of the Armenian people, I would like to emphasize that I hold no grudge against the Turkish people. I feel obliged to show my solidarity with a population that is in my opinion abandoned by the well-thinking world. I feel obliged to ask the members of the European Commission to avoid that by complicated geopolitical issues the Kurdish people will not get the protection, and support they deserve, and urgently need. Yesterday’s German Parliament’s vote, is of great life’s value to the Kurdish people.

Yesterday the German Bundestag voted on the so-called “Armenian issue”. The German Government has officially called the 1915-1917 massacre of hundreds of thousands of Armenians, under the ruling of the Ottomans, a genocide. A so called planned attempt to wipe out the Armenian people. Calling this moment in time a genocide is against the wishes and will of the Turkish government led by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Following earlier postponement, this time under great pressure from the German parliament, the German Government under the leadership of Angela Merkel had to vote on this matter. The pressure Recep Tayyip Erdoğan exerts on Angela Merkel made it seem like she was ‘afraid’ to vote. The refugee-deal with the European Union could be harmed. Under the guise of her many appointments yesterday, Angela Merkel skipped the voting and did not take her responsibility. A tactical move maybe … but a show of weakness and a shameless and cowardly decision…

A sign of weakness and shameful because ultimately the insanely aggressive political game Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is playing will not stop by not showing the strength to vote. There is even a risk that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will further restrict the freedoms of its people and especially the Kurdish part of the Turkish people. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan looks and acts like he feels untouchable. The Turks also threatened to open the gates of hell by canceling the refugee-deal with the European Union. Tough politics over the lives of (displaced) people. In my view, a great and fearful-looking “sign of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s time”. In sentimental terms it says almost everything about what one would expect from Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government. Madness and far beond. The European Union has no answer to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government. No plan. No strength. No unity. No face. It is weak and it is a shameless and cowardly looking institution…

As one might possibly know, it is virtually impossible for the world’s journalism and human rights organizations to acquire an objective picture from the areas where the Turkish army is extremely harshly fighting the so called Kurdish terrorists. It is difficult to carry out an objective analysis. The government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is making this impossible. This against all international treaties and laws. For that reason alone should “we”, in my view, be vigilant. Under the reign of the last Sultan of Turkey, hundreds of thousands of my Armenian relatives where murdered. It does not matter if ‘the beast’ is named genocide or ‘just’ mass-murder. Dead is dead. Even Atatürk described the killings of the Armenians a big shame. Atatürk became a part of the political history, possibly because of this dark page of Turkish-Armenian history. And even to this day the world leaders seem incapable to stop genocide and mass-murder. Just look at Rwanda, former Yugoslavia and so on…

The images and reports which have come to the public, give a very disturbing, visual impression. What comes forward is that many innocent people of the Kurdish population, in several besieged cities and regions, have to suffer greatly under the military invasion. There are signs of thousands of dead, thousands of (deliberately) destroyed houses and refugee flows of tens of thousands of Kurdish women, children and (older) men. These people can not all be terrorist. These people deserve the full deployment of international resources and rights to find support for their cause.

After insistence of Russian journalists and Kurdish-Turkish parliamentarians, the United Nations will finally examine the war against the Kurdish people. There are many disturbing images of executions, mass-graves (!) with women, children and elderly reported to the United Nations.

The Turkish army is bombing deep into Syria and Iraq. They are killing Kurdish soldiers and make them ‘lame ducks’. These soldiers are responsible for successfully fighting the “Islamic State” (ISIS). The Iraqis have asked the Turks several times to leave their territory. The Turks refuse, again against all international treaties and laws.

In one of the election campaigns of the President of the United States, mister Barack Obama promised that he would make sure that the killing of the Armenians would be called a genocide. This has now been postponed twice. Probably because the Americans need the Turkish bases to fight and protect in the Middle East. This shows the type of game played by the Turkish government. I think this game is going to kill and displace more and more Kurdish people and we are all responsible, so me too. My responsibility is to write my opinion on this matter, so I do.

I think the world leaders must also protect the Turks against themselves. Against shameful episodes in their history… because it seems that history is repeating itself. Only I fear that this time it ends with a  war. An adverse war for the Turkish. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made his sultan looking palace but this makes his politics, law and order not directly a good foundation for peace and stability.

As main point of order, I would like to emphasize that the Kurdish people have managed to build a successful and well organized army. The world must be aware that the Turkish (political) oppression on the Kurdish people in Turkey can ensure that the Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria will eventually turn against Turkey. This to protect and revenge their relatives, because they definitely need protection. Mind you, I do not call for violence, but I just want to avoid violence and more suffering!
